On a person's page, "N other values" under a fact lets you see them, make one the preferred value, or delete it. Merging two people keeps the values that were not chosen, and undoing the merge puts them back. - **Presumed deceased.** New people who cannot still be alive start as Deceased: anyone born more than 110 years ago, or ruled out by a parent, child, sibling or spouse's dates. This applies when you confirm a record, import a GEDCOM file or add a relative. Existing people are never changed silently: two new conflicts point out people who cannot still be alive, each with a one-click Mark as deceased. - **Names that fit.** Names that are too long for their space now shorten step by step, for example to initials ("J.R.R. Tolkien") or a shortened surname, instead of being cut off. The full name still shows on hover. This applies across the knowledge base, profiles, matches, search, the dashboard, the family tree and the Research Companion. ### Changed - **Surname fields.** Every person form now puts the birth surname next to the first name and the married surname second, for men and women alike. Recording a death date on a person whose status is Unknown now marks them Deceased everywhere you can edit them. ### Fixed - **Maiden name shown as married name.** A confirmed record no longer repeats a daughter's maiden surname in the Married name field. - **Child with the same parent twice.** Merging two copies of a parent who each had a child but no recorded partner no longer leaves the child showing the same parent twice. - **Connecting from Gemini.** Connecting KleioBase to a Gemini app no longer fails with "The request is too large". - **Pages crashing under browser translation.** Some timelines and the merge screen no longer crash when Chrome translates the page. ## v3.1.1 - 2026-10-29 Merging people quickly one after another no longer fails. ### Fixed - **Merging people back to back.** Merging two people right after another merge could fail with an error and leave both people unmerged. The merge now goes through. ## v3.1.0 - 2026-10-27 After you confirm a record, KleioBase now shows that it is checking for matches and helps you reach your first one, and the dashboard and pages load faster. ### Added - **Match check after you confirm a record.** When you confirm a record in Upload, a panel now shows that KleioBase is checking it for matches. Until your workspace has a match, it suggests adding a second record to give the matching something to connect. - **Second-record suggestion on the dashboard.** While your workspace has no match yet, the dashboard suggests adding a second record in place of the general first-steps hint. ### Changed - **Match notifications open the match.** When a notification in the bell is about a single match, clicking it now takes you straight to that match. - **Faster dashboard.** Your Tree Health Score appears straight away and refreshes in the background, so the dashboard no longer waits for it before showing. - **Faster pages.** Pages open and become usable sooner. ## v3.0.1 - 2026-10-26 Editing a record you opened from the Knowledge Base updates the people linked to it again, and recreating people from a record no longer reports success when it hasn't finished. ### Fixed - **Record edits reach the linked people.** When you opened a record from the Knowledge Base and saved a change, the edit was kept on the record but you were never offered the update for the people linked to it. Saving now offers the change to those people, the same as when you open the record from Upload. - **Recreating people from a record.** If some people could not be linked back to the record or their family, recreating them still said it had worked. It now tells you when something failed, and runs faster on records with many people. ## v3.0.0 - 2026-10-19 You can now connect AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT to your research, build your own tools on the new KleioBase API, and explore your tree on a new Statistics page. ### Added - **Connect your AI assistant.** On any plan, add KleioBase as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant that supports MCP, sign in, and choose which access to allow. Your assistant can then search your people and records, answer questions about your tree, and upload records for you. You can see and disconnect connected apps at any time under Settings > Developer. The "Connecting AI assistants" help article walks you through it. - **The KleioBase API.** On the Professional plan, create personal API keys under Settings > Developer and use them to read and edit their knowledge base from scripts and other tools, including uploading and processing records. Documentation lives at kleiobase.com/developers. - **Statistics page.** A new Statistics page in the sidebar shows your tree by the numbers: the most common names, places and occupations, births and deaths on a map, lifespans, record holders, families and shared ancestry. Click a name or place to see the people behind it. ### Fixed - **Research Companion attachments.** A record attached partway through a conversation is now picked up straight away. Attachment chips and record search results show the record's title instead of its file name, open the record when clicked, and an unsent message with its attachments is kept if you reload the page. Links the Companion gives you to pages in the app now always lead somewhere. - **Same-name people in the Research Companion.** When asked whether two people with the same name are one person, the Companion now reads the linked records and weighs differences such as different fathers. - **Relatives listed as witnesses.** A child who also acted as a witness on a parent's record is now shown as that parent's child, not as a witness. - **Couples shown as partners.** Imported couples with no marriage date or place are now shown as husband and wife unless the file says they were partners or only engaged. - **Duplicates listed as siblings.** The "Merge with another person" search now includes the person's brothers and sisters, so a duplicate that was filed as a sibling can be found and merged. - **GEDCOM 7 imports that failed to load.** Files from family tree programs that leave a stray space at the end of some lines now import normally. If a file still can't be read, the error now tells you which line is the problem. - **Merged people in the Trash.** People merged into someone else now carry a Merged tag in the Trash, and Delete forever no longer fails on a person others were merged into. - **People with a death date shown as Unknown.** People created from a record that mentions their death are now marked deceased, and existing ones have been corrected. ### Removed - **In-app support chat.** The chat assistant that opened from Support has been retired. Support in the sidebar now takes you to Settings > Support, where you can browse the help center or email the team. ## v2.10.4 - 2026-10-12 The Research Companion only reports duplicate checks it actually made, and duplicate suggestions stay up to date after a merge. ### Fixed - **Honest duplicate reviews in the Research Companion.** When you ask the Companion to work through your possible duplicates, it now checks each pair it lists and tells you how many it has really reviewed, instead of saying it went through the whole list after looking at only part of it. - **Shared spouses count as evidence.** Two copies of the same person who share a spouse or children are now recognised as a stronger possible match. - **Suggestions refresh after a merge.** Merging or unmerging two people now updates the duplicate suggestions for their spouses, children and parents right away. - **Connection suggestions no longer get stuck.** New connection suggestions could stop arriving for some trees after people were deleted or merged. They now come through as normal. ## v2.10.3 - 2026-10-11 The Research Companion is more careful when checking for duplicates, and the dashboard loads faster. ### Fixed - **More careful duplicate checks in the Research Companion.** When you ask the Companion to review possible duplicates, it now compares each pair's family and dates before giving a verdict, so relatives with the same name, such as a grandfather and grandson, are no longer called the same person. It also answers a direct question first and keeps any filter you set while working through a long list. - **Faster dashboard.** The dashboard's tree overview and the "not connected to your tree" list load quicker, especially in large trees. - **Clearer errors.** A few actions that could fail silently, such as editing a family that belongs to another workspace, now tell you something went wrong instead of appearing to succeed. ## v2.10.2 - 2026-10-08 Duplicate suggestions are more accurate and clear out when no longer possible, and profile family sections show every child in the right place. ### Fixed - **More accurate duplicate suggestions.** Two people with clearly different names could be suggested as a possible match because their names were wrongly treated as spellings of the same name. Those pairs are no longer lifted into your suggestions. - **Impossible suggestions clear out.** A possible duplicate could stay in your list after new details, for example dates added by merging two people, showed the pair could not be the same person. Those suggestions are now removed. - **Children in the right family.** On a profile page, a child could appear under "Other children" instead of under the couple they belong to. They now show with both parents. - **Long names on profile pages.** Long names in Family Connections and Associates no longer wrap across lines. They are shortened with an ellipsis, and the full name shows when you hover. ## v2.10.1 - 2026-10-08 The Research Companion goes further on every message, and the dashboard loads faster. ### Changed - **More Research Companion use on Archivist and Professional.** Each message now uses less of your allowance, and both plans get a larger Companion allowance, so you can do considerably more research before you need to wait. - **Big Companion requests in batches.** A request that covers a long list, such as checking every pending duplicate, is worked through up to 50 items per reply. The Companion tells you how far it got; send any message to continue with the next batch. ### Fixed - **Faster dashboard.** The dashboard and the pages around it load quicker. - **Companion citations.** A reference chip in a Companion answer could occasionally point to a record that does not exist. Only real records are linked now. ## v2.10.0 - 2026-10-06 You can now organise your knowledge base with folders and tags, arrange your dashboard the way you like, and place fields suggest places you have already used. ### Added - **Folders and tags.** File people and records into nested folders and label them with coloured tags from the People and Records pages. Browse folders like a file explorer, search inside a folder, and move or tag many items at once. Available on every plan. - **Customize your dashboard.** Press Customize on the dashboard and drag the widgets into the order you want. Your layout is saved to your account, and Reset to default puts everything back. - **Place suggestions.** When you type in a place field, KleioBase suggests places already used in your workspace, most used first. You can still type any place you like. ### Fixed - **Newspaper clippings and other published text.** Records such as printed obituaries could fail to transcribe. They now go through, and if a page still cannot be read your credits are refunded. - **Unlinking a parent.** Removing a parent from one child no longer removes that parent from all of the child's siblings. - **Duplicate detection.** Two copies of the same person entered under one family are now found as duplicates instead of being treated as siblings. - **Research Companion reliability.** A conversation could stop with "An error occurred" partway through an answer. It now recovers and carries on. - **Faster record confirmation.** Confirming a record with many people is quicker, and it no longer hangs for minutes when the network is slow. ## v2.9.0 - 2026-10-03 Your dashboard now shows everything that changed in your knowledge base, and you can choose how many generations the family tree draws. ### Added - **Full activity feed on the dashboard.** Recent Activity now covers uploads, records linked to people, people added, GEDCOM imports, merges, items moved to trash and unlinks, with record thumbnails and profile photos. Changes made together are grouped into one entry. - **Choose how many generations to show.** A new Generations button in the family tree controls sets how many generations the chart draws, from 1 to 5. On the Tree view it applies above and below the person you focus on; Pedigree and Fan charts now go up to five generations of ancestors. Your choice is remembered. - **Dates for On This Day history.** Historical events in the On This Day widget now show the date they happened, in your preferred date format. ### Changed - **Wider Timeline and Places.** The knowledge base Timeline and Places views now use the full width of your screen. ### Fixed - **Your date format everywhere.** Timelines, profile facts, notifications, billing dates, reports and other places that always showed dates day-first now follow the date format you chose in Settings. - **Fewer false matches for unnamed people.** A person with no name recorded no longer shows up as a possible match for everyone born around the same year. - **Long deep scans.** A deep scan that took several minutes and needed a second attempt could fail. It now completes. ## v2.8.0 - 2026-10-02 You can now view your tree as a pedigree or fan chart, see family births and deaths on each person's timeline, and download a complete copy of your data. ### Added - **Pedigree and fan charts.** The family tree now has Tree, Pedigree and Fan views. Pedigree shows four generations of ancestors to the right of the person you focus on, and Fan draws them as a half circle. Both mark ancestors who appear more than once, and the tree remembers the view you used last. - **Family events on the timeline.** A person's timeline now shows the births and deaths of their children and the death of a spouse during the marriage, each linked to that relative's profile. - **Click through to people from matches and conflicts.** Names on match cards, in the match details window and on the conflicts page now open that person's profile. - **Readable browser tabs.** Each page in the app now has its own tab title, including the name of the person you are looking at, so your history and open tabs are easy to tell apart. ### Changed - **Birth-year differences in matches.** Match scores now drop gradually as birth years drift apart, and larger gaps count more heavily, so near-identical years score higher and distant ones lower. ### Fixed - **Download my data is complete.** The data download now includes everything in your account, including profile photos, chat attachments and imported media, and no longer stops you after a few other actions. - **Historical place names on the map.** Places written with old country names, such as Galicia or the German Empire, now land in the right part of the world instead of a modern place with the same name. - **Busy towns on the Places map.** The pop-up for a town with many events now scrolls instead of running off the screen, and follows the event-type filter. - **Dismissing duplicates.** When you dismiss a possible match on a profile, the next one moves up to take its place. - **Search results in a new tab.** Middle-click or Ctrl/Cmd-click on a search result now opens it in a new tab. ## v2.7.3 - 2026-09-30 You can now change how two people are related straight from a profile, and GEDCOM exports with lots of images work again. ### Added - **Change a relationship in place.** On a profile, each relative and associate now has a change button, so you can turn a "Witness" into a "Son" (or the other way round) without removing the link and adding it again. ### Fixed - **Large GEDCOM exports with images.** Exporting a .gdz with many images could fail. Much larger archives now export, and the export window tells you when a big archive will take a while. - **Unlinking an only child.** Removing a person's only child no longer leaves that child listed under "Parents not recorded". ## v2.7.2 - 2026-09-30 You can now show dates as "12 May 1892", family connections on a profile are grouped by family, and matches, reports and GEDCOM exports are more accurate. ### Added - **A new date format.** Choose "12 May 1892" in Settings > Preferences to show dates day-first without the "th", the style most archives and citation guides use. ### Changed - **Family connections grouped by family.** A profile now lists parents and siblings first, then each marriage with its children, and shows birth and death dates for every relative. Printed profiles use the same layout. ### Fixed - **Suggested matches update when you edit a person.** Changing someone's details now updates their suggested matches right away, and matches that no longer make sense are removed. - **Dismissed matches stay dismissed after a merge.** Merging two people no longer brings back suggestions you had already dismissed. - **Research reports follow your name preference.** Married women are named the way you chose in Settings, and records show and sort by their own dates. - **Negative evidence exports correctly to GEDCOM.** A search that found nothing in a date range is no longer exported as "this event did not happen". - **Readable labels everywhere.** Some screens showed short codes like "MARR" or "WITN" instead of plain names. - **Your list view is remembered.** The people and records pages no longer flash to the card view before switching to your saved list view. - **Family tree Back button.** Going back from the family tree no longer shows the starting-person picker or an out-of-date path. ## v2.7.1 - 2026-09-29 Large trees load faster, search is more reliable, suggested matches are more accurate, and research reports are fully white-label. ### Changed - **Research reports are fully white-label.** Reports no longer carry KleioBase branding, so you can hand them to clients as your own work. A new help article explains how to create one. ### Fixed - **Large trees load quickly again.** The dashboard and family tree could be slow to load, or time out, on big trees. - **Search shows the right results.** Search could briefly show results for something you typed earlier, and a failed search looked the same as one with no results. - **More accurate suggested matches.** People with clearly different first names are no longer suggested as possible matches. - **No more ghost parents in the family tree.** Removing a parent could leave behind an empty set of unknown parents. - **Correct ages in research reports.** Ages could be shown a year too high. ## v2.7.0 - 2026-09-28 You can now buy extra workspaces, re-import an updated GEDCOM file without duplicating your tree, merge any two people by hand, and see titles like "Dr." or "Jr." in names, and the whole app is faster. ### Added - **Extra workspaces on any plan.** Add +1, +3 or +5 workspaces, monthly or annual, from Settings > Workspaces. Packs stack, and each one can be cancelled on its own from Settings > Billing. You can also archive a workspace you are not using (it stays readable and archiving is free) and restore it later, so only active workspaces count toward your limit. - **Re-import an updated GEDCOM file without duplicating anyone.** When you import a newer version of a tree you already brought in, KleioBase shows how many of its people are already in your workspace and lets you skip them (the default) or import everyone again. On Researcher and above there is a third option: bring in only the people whose details changed in your genealogy program since the last import, as new profiles you can compare and merge. - **Merge any two people yourself.** A "Merge another person" button on the profile page lets you search for the duplicate and walk through the same side-by-side merge screen used for suggested matches. - **Name prefixes, suffixes and titles.** Titles such as "Dr.", "Rev." or "Jr." from your GEDCOM files and profiles now show as part of the person's name, and search finds people by them. Turn this off with "Show titles in names" in Settings > Preferences. - **Choose which parents the family tree follows.** A person with more than one set of parents (birth and adoptive, or a stepparent) now shows one set at a time, starting with the biological parents. Click the badge on their card to switch. - **View in family tree from the profile page.** One click takes you from a person's profile to their place in the tree. - **Living status when adding a person.** The new person form has the same Unknown / Living / Deceased choice as Edit profile, and marking someone living hides the death fields. ### Changed - **Faster everywhere.** Pages, the family tree, the dashboard, conflicts and places all load noticeably quicker, especially on large trees. - **Family tree layout.** Families are arranged the way most genealogy programs draw them: couples stay on the same row, children sit directly below their parents, and grandparents stay above their own children. Photos on tree cards are larger and keep one size at every zoom level. - **Clearer billing page for founders.** If you hold a lifetime plan and upgraded, Settings > Billing now shows just the plan you are on, with one payment method. ### Fixed - **Merging two people keeps everything.** Negative evidence and alternate names from both profiles are now kept after a merge. - **Large accounts see all their data.** Some lists and searches on very large trees could quietly stop partway through. They now return everything. - **Cleaner MyHeritage imports.** Residences without a place now use the address, internal ID numbers no longer appear as facts, and empty events are no longer created. ## v2.6.1 - 2026-09-21 Deep scans no longer fail on long documents, and the family tree draws its connecting lines correctly. ### Fixed - **Deep scans on long or detailed records no longer fail.** A scan that needed more than a minute was being cut off and reported as "our AI service is briefly overloaded, try again in a few minutes", which could never work because the same record failed the same way every time. Records now get up to four minutes on a deep scan and two on a normal one, and if a scan really does run out of time you are told what it was and offered the right next step instead of a retry that repeats the failure. - **Family tree connecting lines are drawn correctly.** Lines could leave a person's card and stop in empty space, couples with no children carried a junction dot joined to nothing, and children were sometimes hung under one parent rather than the couple. Couples now sit centred over their children, the line drops from between them, and the dot only appears where a line actually leaves it. - **A person's relatives are no longer listed twice.** The side panel could repeat a parent or a spouse, and could show an "unknown" second parent alongside the real one. ## v2.6.0 - 2026-09-18 Duplicate suggestions and the merge screen now show you each person's family before you decide, your dashboard tells you which records are still waiting for review, and a confirmation email that never arrived can be sent again from the sign-in page. ### Added - **Relatives under every person on the merge screen.** Each person card now lists parents, spouses and children, so two people with the same name can be told apart before you merge them. A relative who also appears elsewhere on the page is a link: clicking it scrolls straight to them. - **The "See more" panel on a duplicate suggestion describes the person in full.** Birth and death dates and places, parents (labelled adoptive, foster or sealed where that applies), spouses with the marriage year and place, children, siblings, and up to 50 of the records linked to them. The scoring signals are still there, now tucked under "Why this was suggested". Two people with similar names and birth years can be told apart without opening the merge screen at all. - **A "Waiting for review" card on your dashboard.** Records KleioBase finished reading that you never confirmed, how long each has been sitting there, and a link that opens them together in the upload workspace. It only appears when you have some, so nothing changes if you are keeping up. - **Send the confirmation email again from the sign-in page.** Signing in before you have confirmed your address used to be a dead end if the first email went missing. You are now offered a resend on the spot. - **A warning when KleioBase opens inside another app's browser.** Tapping a link in Facebook or Instagram opens it in that app's built-in browser, where the sign-in handoff can fail. You now get a notice with a one-tap copy of the address so you can open it in your normal browser instead. ### Fixed - **Records emptied from the trash are now fully deleted.** The 30-day trash purge had stopped running, and even when it ran it left each record's uploaded image and thumbnail behind in storage. Trashed records and people are removed on schedule again, their files go with them, and a person who had been merged into someone you deleted is removed alongside them. ## v2.5.2 - 2026-09-13 Merging a match now keeps the person you started from, the profile timeline gets a Historical context toggle, and reopening a record interrupted by a page refresh shows its finished result instead of only offering Retry. ### Changed - **The merge screen keeps the person you opened the match from.** Starting a merge from someone's profile page used to put the other person in the left column and preselect them to survive, along with their relatives. The profile you came from and their side of the family now sit on the left and are kept by default. Merges started from the dashboard or the Research Companion work as before. - **A Historical context toggle on the profile timeline.** A new button beside Research overlay shows or hides the historical era bands drawn behind a person's events. It appears whenever there are eras to show for that person. Every profile now opens the same way: research overlay on, historical context off. - **Video walkthroughs in the help center.** The Getting Started and Uploading Records articles now play the walkthrough video right in the page, with the transcript still underneath, and the Introducing KleioBase post opens with the intro film. - **Tell us why you are cancelling.** Cancelling a plan now asks one question: why you are leaving. Pick the closest reason and add a comment if you like. It goes to the founder and nowhere else. ### Fixed - **Reopening an interrupted record shows the result.** If you refreshed the page while a record was still processing, its tab came back as "Interrupted by page refresh" and reopening it from the Records tab only offered Retry, which costs another credit, even though processing had usually finished. Reopening now picks up the finished result. - **Duplicate suggestions no longer claim a spouse or parent match that is not there.** A wife recorded under her husband's surname, or a child under its father's, was counted as a name agreement with the other person's relative. Two different wives who shared a married surname could be described as "spouses with similar names". The given name now decides, so the evidence on a match card and in the Research Companion is accurate. - **The merge screen labels facts clearly.** Facts carried by only one profile were tagged "new" in green, including your own long-standing facts. Tags now say how the other profile compares: "no equivalent" or "differs". A profile carrying the same fact twice also no longer shows it as two rows that cannot be toggled apart, or writes it twice onto the merged profile. - **The Potential Duplicates list only loads more when you ask.** Scrolling past the section could trigger "Show more" on its own, so the button flipped to Loading without being clicked. It now loads only when you click it. ## v2.5.1 - 2026-09-10 Merging two profiles no longer asks you to discard an occupation it was going to keep anyway, and no longer leaves you a duplicate fact to clean up afterwards. ### Fixed - **The merge screen no longer asks you to choose between two different occupations.** When one profile said tailor and the other said merchant, the merge offered a straight either/or, as though one of them was about to be thrown away. Both were always kept. Both wordings now appear in the Facts list as their own keep-or-drop rows, and the occupation row above says plainly that it only picks the value shown at the top of the profile. The same applies to religion. - **Merging no longer leaves you a duplicate fact to tidy up.** When both profiles recorded the same thing, such as each carrying a "Religion: Jewish" fact from its own birth record, the merge wrote it twice on the surviving profile and it then came back to you as a conflict to resolve by hand. Entries that say the same thing on both sides are now kept once, whichever records they came from. ## v2.5.0 - 2026-09-09 Professional accounts can now keep separate research lines in separate workspaces, the Potential Duplicates count tells you the truth instead of stopping at 10, and duplicate-fact conflicts that used to come straight back after you resolved them now stay resolved. ### Added - **Workspaces.** A workspace is a completely separate knowledge base inside your account: its own records, people, families, timeline, places, conflicts, Companion conversations, insights and Tree Health Score. Nothing crosses between them, so your own family history, a client's family and a one-off lookup never mix. Every account has one workspace already. Professional accounts can create up to five and switch between them from the top of the sidebar. Your credits and Companion budget stay account-wide rather than being split per workspace, so extra workspaces buy you separation, not extra allowance. If you ever drop below Professional nothing is deleted: your default workspace keeps working normally and the others lock to read-only, still browsable and still fully exportable, indefinitely. There is a new [Workspaces](/docs/workspaces) help article covering all of it. - **Deleting a workspace.** You can permanently erase any workspace that is not your default one, from Settings > Workspaces. You arm it by typing the workspace's name exactly, then confirm through a single-use link sent to your account email that expires after 30 minutes. A read-only workspace can be deleted too, so finishing a client engagement does not mean resubscribing just to clear it away. Erasure is immediate and cannot be undone. - **Alternate wordings on a fact.** A fact now shows an "Also recorded as" row listing the other wordings that were folded into it, each linked to the record it came from, and you can add a wording by hand without needing a conflict to do it. ### Changed - **The merge screen puts all relatives in one place.** Suggested pairs, relatives you paired yourself and unpaired relatives used to sit in three separate sections, so a matched spouse and an unmatched spouse could be a long way apart on the page. They are now one Relatives section grouped by relationship, and every relative is plainly either "Same person" or "Stays separate". - **Resolving a duplicate fact is clearer.** The easy-to-miss "Not the same" text button is now a "Same fact" checkbox, ticked by default. Anything you untick is struck through and recorded as a genuinely different value, so it will not be offered to you again. ### Fixed - **The Potential Duplicates count on a profile now shows the real number.** It was capped at 10, so a person with 17 possible duplicates read "10" and kept reading "10" through your first seven merges, which looked exactly like the badge ignoring the merges you had just approved. It now shows the true count, goes down as you work through the list, and lets you page through all of them instead of quietly stopping at ten. The duplicate count on the People list also no longer counts matches against people who have already been merged away. - **Merging a cluster no longer fails on the relatives it offers alongside.** Merging two people and accepting the suggested relatives reported "some related changes could not be applied" with a permission error for most of them. That affected almost every relative merge, and it now goes through. - **Dismissing a suggested relative on the merge screen is no longer a dead end.** Clicking X used to make both people disappear from every picker on the page with no way to pair either of them with anyone else. It now simply moves that pair back to unmatched, hands each person their own picker, and offers the other one back as a suggestion. Restoring a pairing keeps any survivor and field choices you had already made on it. - **Duplicate-fact conflicts that could never be resolved.** If the same wording appeared on a fact more than once, resolving the conflict said it had worked, changed nothing, and the same conflict reappeared on the next scan. Facts carrying the same wording are now genuinely folded into one, and a value you mark as different stays marked, so the conflict does not come back. - **Saving a profile no longer discards a fact's alternate wordings.** Editing and saving a profile dropped the record links behind every wording that had been folded into a fact, losing the evidence for them. ## v2.4.0 - 2026-08-28 A 90-second walkthrough video now shows you the whole workflow end to end, the lifetime offer is available from inside the app, and the upload workspace no longer crashes when your browser offers to translate the page. ### Added - **A 90-second walkthrough of the whole workflow.** Watch one record go from a scanned page to a confirmed profile: selecting a single entry on a page holding several, adding context, running a deep scan, reviewing what came back, confirming it, checking a suggested match, and asking the Research Companion about it. It now sets out the checks a request has to pass before anything is disclosed, that we will challenge a request we think is unlawful, that we disclose the narrowest thing that answers it, and that details of living relatives named in your uploaded records are removed first. No such request has ever been received. - **The merge screen asks about less.** Occupation and religion were each being put to you twice, once as a choice between the two profiles and again as a keep-or-drop toggle further down. You are now asked once. Nothing that used to be merged is dropped, and the Facts and Events sections say what they are for. ### Fixed - **The upload workspace no longer crashes when your browser offers to translate the page.** Chrome's built-in translation rewrites the page underneath the app, and the workspace could disappear mid-upload as a result. Translation is now switched off inside the app itself. The marketing site, help center, blog and sign-in pages stay translatable. - **Two different people on one record can no longer be merged into one by mistake.** The AI labels each person it finds on a page, and nothing stopped it giving two people the same label, which could attach a marriage or a parent to the wrong one. Duplicate labels are now separated before you ever see the record, including on records read before this change. - **A clearer message when signing in with Google or GitHub fails.** It used to say your email was verified and to sign in below, which was neither true nor useful. It now names the actual cause, which is usually that the sign-in started in one browser and finished in another, and tells you to try again in a normal browser window. - **Your initials in the account menu.** A display name containing brackets, such as a note after your name, produced a bracket instead of a letter. - **A page address that does not exist now shows a "not found" page.** Signed-out visitors were sent to the sign-in screen instead, whatever they had typed. ## v2.3.0 - 2026-08-24 You can now upload a PDF and pick the pages you want, transcription runs on stronger models that make noticeably fewer mistakes, and the upload workspace is easier to add to once you already have something open. ### Added - **Upload a PDF and choose the pages you want.** Drop a PDF into the upload workspace and it opens a page picker with one tile per page. Tick the pages that matter and each one becomes a record, exactly as if you had uploaded that page as an image. Pages that were created digitally rather than scanned are read from the text they already carry, which is more accurate than reading a picture of it, and you can still draw a region box to work with part of a page. - **A short tour the first time you open a page picker,** covering what the picker is, how to select pages, and what happens to the pages you add. - **Drag a file anywhere onto the upload workspace to add it,** not just onto the dropzone. Dropping a file while a record was open used to make the browser navigate away and lose unsaved edits. ### Changed - **Stronger models behind deep scan, with about a quarter fewer transcription mistakes.** Deep scan now makes a single pass with a considerably more capable model instead of two passes with a weaker one. It reads handwriting more accurately, and it still costs five credits. - **Better name matching.** Many names have two defensible pronunciations, and only one of them was being compared, so names that genuinely sound alike were being counted as evidence against a match. You may see a few correct matches surface that were previously missed. - **Duplicate suggestions explain their reasoning.** When the match screen scores a name, the reason now sits underneath the score it explains instead of appearing alongside it as though the two were separate findings. ### Fixed - **You can add another record while one is already open.** The upload control only ever appeared on an empty workspace, and the small button that replaced it sat inside the scrolling tab strip, so with a few tabs open or on a phone it scrolled out of sight with nothing to indicate it was there. It now stays reachable. - **Opening a tab brings it into view.** With enough tabs open that the strip has to scroll, a tab you opened became active but stayed off screen, so you had to go looking for the thing you had just opened. - **The Research Companion recovers from a busy moment.** When the model behind it was briefly overloaded, the answer stopped dead and the turn was lost. It now waits and carries on. - **Deleting your account finishes properly.** If you had ever opened the On This Day panel, the final step of account deletion failed: everything about you was erased except the sign-in record itself, which was left behind. Deletion now completes in full. ## v2.2.0 - 2026-08-14 You can now mark who is living and keep them out of anything you share, work with dates in the calendar they were written in, record what you searched and did not find, and reconcile conflicting facts when you merge two people. ### Added - **Living and deceased status on every person.** Set whether someone is living, deceased or unknown from their profile. Tap a date on a phone or tablet to see the equivalent. - **Negative evidence you can use.** Record the searches that came back empty, what you looked in, and what that rules out. Those notes now live alongside a person, count toward how complete their research is, and stop you repeating a search you already did. - **Conflicting facts surfaced when you merge.** When two profiles record the same fact differently, KleioBase now tells you which values genuinely disagree and which are just the same thing written another way, and lets you settle every one of them on the merge screen instead of silently keeping one. - **Much richer GEDCOM exports.** Exports now carry place coordinates, photos, source citation roles, associations between people, and the descriptive metadata other genealogy software expects, so a tree you move elsewhere arrives intact instead of stripped back. - **Two new help articles.** Dates and calendars, and negative evidence, are now covered in the help center. ### Changed - **Alternate names survive an import.** A person recorded under more than one name in your GEDCOM file keeps all of them instead of everything but the first being dropped. - **Better exports for other software.** Exported files now follow the GEDCOM standard more closely in both supported versions, so fewer programs complain when you open them. - **The Research Companion sees the whole profile, and answers in your language.** It now works from everything recorded about a person rather than a partial view, and replies in the language you use. - **The export options screen has been redesigned** to match the rest of the app. - **Fewer wrong duplicate suggestions.** People who merely shared part of a name were being put forward as the same person. You may also see a few genuine matches appear that were previously missed. ### Fixed - **Editing a profile no longer discards facts you entered by hand.** Saving a profile could wipe timeline entries that were not events, and clear the fact choices you had pinned. Both are kept now. - **The Places map no longer breaks when location access is declined.** Refusing the browser's location prompt took the whole map down instead of just leaving it uncentred. - **Record links in Research Companion answers open the right record again.** Some links came back with their addresses mangled and led nowhere. - **A married surname no longer hides a person.** Women recorded under a married name were missing from match, merge and search results that should have found them. ## v2.1.1 - 2026-08-08 Opening an email confirmation link a second time no longer signs you out or tells you the link is broken. ### Fixed - **Confirming your email works even if the link gets opened twice.** Confirmation links can only be used once, and mail apps often open them in the background before you click. When that happened, the second visit signed you out of the account you had just confirmed and showed a red "that link is invalid or has expired" message, even though your email was already confirmed. You now stay signed in and land where the link was taking you. - **Clearer message when a confirmation link really has been used.** If a confirmation link can no longer be used, the sign-in page now explains that your email may already be confirmed and that signing in is all you need, instead of telling you to request a new link you do not need. ## v2.1.0 - 2026-08-07 You can now sign in to one account with more than one method, attach your own images and PDFs to a Research Companion conversation, and merging two people no longer loses any of their details. ### Added - **More than one sign-in method per account.** Link Google or GitHub to an account you created with a password, or set a password on an account you created with Google or GitHub, from Settings > Account. You can request a countersigned copy, and a new public sub-processor page lists every vendor involved in handling your content, with a change history and an email notification you can subscribe to. - **A new setting: Infer historical context from relatives.** Controls whether KleioBase uses details recorded on a person's relatives to describe their historical context. On by default, and you can turn it off in Settings. ### Changed - **You may be asked to confirm your cookie and privacy choices again.** We updated what those choices cover and rewrote the matching section of the privacy policy, so the banner will reappear once for everyone. Your existing account and data are unaffected. ### Fixed - **Merging two people no longer loses their details.** Occupation, religion, burial, christening, nicknames, name affixes, cause of death, photos and any facts or timeline events you typed in yourself could all be discarded when a merge kept the other profile. Links and bookmarks pointing at a merged person now resolve to the person they became instead of showing "not found". - **Records that time out during processing are retried instead of failing for good.** A slow extraction was being treated as a permanent error, so the record stopped with nothing to review. Results built from an incomplete pass are also flagged for review now rather than being presented as high confidence. - **Confirmation and password-reset links work when opened in a different browser.** Signing up in one browser and opening the email in another app (tapping the link in the Gmail app, for instance) sent people to an error page even though their account was fine. Those links now work from any device, and the rare genuine failures explain what to do next instead of showing a red error. - **Better match suggestions.** Two people who merely shared a middle name, a patronymic or a country were being scored as a perfect match, and people born decades apart could be suggested on names alone. Matching now compares full names and places properly and treats a missing detail as missing rather than as agreement, so you should see fewer false matches to sort through. - **The On This Day digest email names your relatives.** Ancestors' birth and death anniversaries were showing up as the words "Historical event" instead of the person's name and relationship. - **No more repeated "a sign-in method was added" emails.** Any subsequent sign-in shortly after could re-send the same security email, while a link made on a brand-new account sent none at all. Both are fixed. - **A stray extra scrollbar on the Settings pages is gone.** ### Removed - **The "Continue with Apple" button on the sign-in and sign-up pages.** Apple sign-in was never actually enabled, so clicking it led to an error page with no way back. It is hidden until we can offer it properly. ## v2.0.1 - 2026-08-02 Password reset from Settings works again, and the guided tour no longer gets stuck or skips ahead. ### Fixed - **Sending a password reset link from Settings now works.** The "Send password reset link" button in Settings > Account was failing for everyone who signs in with a password. You can now request the link from Settings as expected. - **The guided tour reaches the end on phones.** Two of the later steps point at items that live in the mobile menu, so on a phone the tour used to stop appearing partway through and never showed a finish.
