What's new in KleioBase.

Added

• Workspaces. A workspace is a completely separate knowledge base inside your account: its own records, people, families, timeline, places, conflicts, Companion conversations, insights and Tree Health Score. Nothing crosses between them, so your own family history, a client's family and a one-off lookup never mix. Every account has one workspace already. Professional accounts can create up to five and switch between them from the top of the sidebar. Your credits and Companion budget stay account-wide rather than being split per workspace, so extra workspaces buy you separation, not extra allowance. If you ever drop below Professional nothing is deleted: your default workspace keeps working normally and the others lock to read-only, still browsable and still fully exportable, indefinitely. There is a new Workspaces help article covering all of it.
• Deleting a workspace. You can permanently erase any workspace that is not your default one, from Settings > Workspaces. You arm it by typing the workspace's name exactly, then confirm through a single-use link sent to your account email that expires after 30 minutes. A read-only workspace can be deleted too, so finishing a client engagement does not mean resubscribing just to clear it away. Erasure is immediate and cannot be undone.
• Alternate wordings on a fact. A fact now shows an "Also recorded as" row listing the other wordings that were folded into it, each linked to the record it came from, and you can add a wording by hand without needing a conflict to do it.

Changed

• The merge screen puts all relatives in one place. Suggested pairs, relatives you paired yourself and unpaired relatives used to sit in three separate sections, so a matched spouse and an unmatched spouse could be a long way apart on the page. They are now one Relatives section grouped by relationship, and every relative is plainly either "Same person" or "Stays separate".
• Resolving a duplicate fact is clearer. The easy-to-miss "Not the same" text button is now a "Same fact" checkbox, ticked by default. Anything you untick is struck through and recorded as a genuinely different value, so it will not be offered to you again.

Fixed

• The Potential Duplicates count on a profile now shows the real number. It was capped at 10, so a person with 17 possible duplicates read "10" and kept reading "10" through your first seven merges, which looked exactly like the badge ignoring the merges you had just approved. It now shows the true count, goes down as you work through the list, and lets you page through all of them instead of quietly stopping at ten. The duplicate count on the People list also no longer counts matches against people who have already been merged away.
• Merging a cluster no longer fails on the relatives it offers alongside. Merging two people and accepting the suggested relatives reported "some related changes could not be applied" with a permission error for most of them. That affected almost every relative merge, and it now goes through.
• Dismissing a suggested relative on the merge screen is no longer a dead end. Clicking X used to make both people disappear from every picker on the page with no way to pair either of them with anyone else. It now simply moves that pair back to unmatched, hands each person their own picker, and offers the other one back as a suggestion. Restoring a pairing keeps any survivor and field choices you had already made on it.
• Duplicate-fact conflicts that could never be resolved. If the same wording appeared on a fact more than once, resolving the conflict said it had worked, changed nothing, and the same conflict reappeared on the next scan. Facts carrying the same wording are now genuinely folded into one, and a value you mark as different stays marked, so the conflict does not come back.
• Saving a profile no longer discards a fact's alternate wordings. Editing and saving a profile dropped the record links behind every wording that had been folded into a fact, losing the evidence for them.

Added

• A 90-second walkthrough of the whole workflow. Watch one record go from a scanned page to a confirmed profile: selecting a single entry on a page holding several, adding context, running a deep scan, reviewing what came back, confirming it, checking a suggested match, and asking the Research Companion about it. It opens the product tour for new accounts, and it sits on the home page and on the Getting Started and Uploading Records help articles, each with the full narration written out underneath if you would rather read it. We host the video ourselves, so watching it tells nobody else anything about you.
• The lifetime deal is now offered inside the app. Researcher Lifetime used to appear only on the pricing page, which meant you had to already be looking for it. It now shows up alongside the usual upgrade options whenever you reach a limit on the free plan. The founder cohort is 25 places rather than 100, and the counter on the pricing page shows how many are left.
• A contact page at kleiobase.com/contact, collecting every way to reach us in one place: support, billing, privacy and data requests, legal notices and abuse reports, plus a link to the live status page.
• Plain-text versions of every public page. Add .md to the address of any page on the marketing site, help center or blog and you get the same content as clean markdown. This is for AI assistants that read pages on your behalf, so what they tell you about KleioBase comes from the real page rather than a guess at it.

Changed

• The marketing pages know when you are already signed in. The top of the site now shows a Dashboard button and your account menu instead of Sign in and Get started, and opening the sign-in or sign-up page while you have a session takes you straight to your dashboard.
• Our commitments on government and law-enforcement requests are now spelled out. Section 16 of the Terms previously said only that we would disclose data where we believed we were required to and would tell you about it. It now sets out the checks a request has to pass before anything is disclosed, that we will challenge a request we think is unlawful, that we disclose the narrowest thing that answers it, and that details of living relatives named in your uploaded records are removed first. No such request has ever been received.
• The merge screen asks about less. Occupation and religion were each being put to you twice, once as a choice between the two profiles and again as a keep-or-drop toggle further down. You are now asked once. Nothing that used to be merged is dropped, and the Facts and Events sections say what they are for.

Fixed

• The upload workspace no longer crashes when your browser offers to translate the page. Chrome's built-in translation rewrites the page underneath the app, and the workspace could disappear mid-upload as a result. Translation is now switched off inside the app itself. The marketing site, help center, blog and sign-in pages stay translatable.
• Two different people on one record can no longer be merged into one by mistake. The AI labels each person it finds on a page, and nothing stopped it giving two people the same label, which could attach a marriage or a parent to the wrong one. Duplicate labels are now separated before you ever see the record, including on records read before this change.
• A clearer message when signing in with Google or GitHub fails. It used to say your email was verified and to sign in below, which was neither true nor useful. It now names the actual cause, which is usually that the sign-in started in one browser and finished in another, and tells you to try again in a normal browser window.
• Your initials in the account menu. A display name containing brackets, such as a note after your name, produced a bracket instead of a letter.
• A page address that does not exist now shows a "not found" page. Signed-out visitors were sent to the sign-in screen instead, whatever they had typed.

Added

• Upload a PDF and choose the pages you want. Drop a PDF into the upload workspace and it opens a page picker with one tile per page. Tick the pages that matter and each one becomes a record, exactly as if you had uploaded that page as an image. The PDF itself never leaves your browser, only the pages you choose are sent, and adding pages is free - a page costs a credit only when you process it. Up to 50 MB and 100 pages, on every plan. Pages that were created digitally rather than scanned are read from the text they already carry, which is more accurate than reading a picture of it, and you can still draw a region box to work with part of a page.
• A short tour the first time you open a page picker, covering what the picker is, how to select pages, and what happens to the pages you add.
• Drag a file anywhere onto the upload workspace to add it, not just onto the dropzone. Dropping a file while a record was open used to make the browser navigate away and lose unsaved edits.

Changed

• Stronger models behind deep scan, with about a quarter fewer transcription mistakes. Deep scan now makes a single pass with a considerably more capable model instead of two passes with a weaker one. It reads handwriting more accurately, and it still costs five credits.
• Better name matching. Many names have two defensible pronunciations, and only one of them was being compared, so names that genuinely sound alike were being counted as evidence against a match. You may see a few correct matches surface that were previously missed.
• Duplicate suggestions explain their reasoning. When the match screen scores a name, the reason now sits underneath the score it explains instead of appearing alongside it as though the two were separate findings.

Fixed

• You can add another record while one is already open. The upload control only ever appeared on an empty workspace, and the small button that replaced it sat inside the scrolling tab strip, so with a few tabs open or on a phone it scrolled out of sight with nothing to indicate it was there. It now stays reachable.
• Opening a tab brings it into view. With enough tabs open that the strip has to scroll, a tab you opened became active but stayed off screen, so you had to go looking for the thing you had just opened.
• The Research Companion recovers from a busy moment. When the model behind it was briefly overloaded, the answer stopped dead and the turn was lost. It now waits and carries on.
• Deleting your account finishes properly. If you had ever opened the On This Day panel, the final step of account deletion failed: everything about you was erased except the sign-in record itself, which was left behind. Deletion now completes in full.

Added

• Living and deceased status on every person. Set whether someone is living, deceased or unknown from their profile. KleioBase suggests a status from the dates you already have, and you decide whether to accept it.
• Living people stay out of what you share. GEDCOM exports, PDF reports and share links can now hide the details of anyone marked living, so you can send a tree or a report to a relative or a client without handing over information about people who are still alive. You confirm you have their agreement before a share link that includes them goes out.
• Dates in the calendar they were written in. Hebrew, Julian, French Republican and other calendar dates are now first-class. Enter a date the way the record states it, see its Gregorian equivalent, convert between calendars, and have it sit in the right place on a timeline instead of being guessed at or ignored. Tap a date on a phone or tablet to see the equivalent.
• Negative evidence you can actually use. Record the searches that came back empty, what you looked in, and what that rules out. Those notes now live alongside a person, count toward how complete their research is, and stop you repeating a search you already did.
• Conflicting facts surfaced when you merge. When two profiles record the same fact differently, KleioBase now tells you which values genuinely disagree and which are just the same thing written another way, and lets you settle every one of them on the merge screen instead of silently keeping one.
• Much richer GEDCOM exports. Exports now carry place coordinates, photos, source citation roles, associations between people, and the descriptive metadata other genealogy software expects, so a tree you move elsewhere arrives intact instead of stripped back.
• Two new help articles. Dates and calendars, and negative evidence, are now covered in the help center.

Changed

• Alternate names survive an import. A person recorded under more than one name in your GEDCOM file keeps all of them instead of everything but the first being dropped.
• Better exports for other software. Exported files now follow the GEDCOM standard more closely in both supported versions, so fewer programs complain when you open them.
• The Research Companion sees the whole profile, and answers in your language. It now works from everything recorded about a person rather than a partial view, and replies in the language you use.
• The export options screen has been redesigned to match the rest of the app.
• Fewer wrong duplicate suggestions. People who merely shared part of a name were being put forward as the same person. You may also see a few genuine matches appear that were previously missed.

Fixed

• Editing a profile no longer discards facts you entered by hand. Saving a profile could wipe timeline entries that were not events, and clear the fact choices you had pinned. Both are kept now.
• The Places map no longer breaks when location access is declined. Refusing the browser's location prompt took the whole map down instead of just leaving it uncentred.
• Record links in Research Companion answers open the right record again. Some links came back with their addresses mangled and led nowhere.
• A married surname no longer hides a person. Women recorded under a married name were missing from match, merge and search results that should have found them.

Added

• More than one sign-in method per account. Link Google or GitHub to an account you created with a password, or set a password on an account you created with Google or GitHub, from Settings > Account. You can unlink one at any time as long as one way in remains, and we email you whenever a sign-in method is added.
• File attachments in the Research Companion. Attach your own images and PDFs to a conversation with the paperclip button, by pasting from the clipboard, or by dragging them onto the chat. Ask about an archive index, a finding aid or a page you are not ready to file, without spending an upload credit and without it turning into a record in your knowledge base.
• A Data Processing Agreement for professional researchers. If you research on behalf of clients, the agreement you need is now published at /dpa and is automatically part of your Terms. You can request a countersigned copy, and a new public sub-processor page lists every vendor involved in handling your content, with a change history and an email notification you can subscribe to.
• A new setting: Infer historical context from relatives. Controls whether KleioBase uses details recorded on a person's relatives to describe their historical context. On by default, and you can turn it off in Settings.

Changed

• You may be asked to confirm your cookie and privacy choices again. We updated what those choices cover and rewrote the matching section of the privacy policy, so the banner will reappear once for everyone. Your existing account and data are unaffected.

Fixed

• Merging two people no longer loses their details. Occupation, religion, burial, christening, nicknames, name affixes, cause of death, photos and any facts or timeline events you typed in yourself could all be discarded when a merge kept the other profile. Everything is now carried across, you can choose field by field which value wins, and undoing a merge fully restores both people. Links and bookmarks pointing at a merged person now resolve to the person they became instead of showing "not found".
• Records that time out during processing are retried instead of failing for good. A slow extraction was being treated as a permanent error, so the record stopped with nothing to review. Results built from an incomplete pass are also flagged for review now rather than being presented as high confidence.
• Confirmation and password-reset links work when opened in a different browser. Signing up in one browser and opening the email in another app (tapping the link in the Gmail app, for instance) sent people to an error page even though their account was fine. Those links now work from any device, and the rare genuine failures explain what to do next instead of showing a red error.
• Better match suggestions. Two people who merely shared a middle name, a patronymic or a country were being scored as a perfect match, and people born decades apart could be suggested on names alone. Matching now compares full names and places properly and treats a missing detail as missing rather than as agreement, so you should see fewer false matches to sort through.
• The On This Day digest email names your relatives. Ancestors' birth and death anniversaries were showing up as the words "Historical event" instead of the person's name and relationship.
• No more repeated "a sign-in method was added" emails. Any subsequent sign-in shortly after could re-send the same security email, while a link made on a brand-new account sent none at all. Both are fixed.
• Everyone who opted in now reliably reaches our mailing list. Some accounts were never added, so product updates and the newsletter did not arrive.
• A stray extra scrollbar on the Settings pages is gone.

Removed

• The "Continue with Apple" button on the sign-in and sign-up pages. Apple sign-in was never actually enabled, so clicking it led to an error page with no way back. It is hidden until we can offer it properly.

Added

• Family tree. Your people now appear as an interactive chart you can pan, zoom and explore across generations. It works with touch gestures on phones and tablets, and stays smooth on large trees.
• Research gaps on the tree. People with missing parents, dates or records are highlighted directly on the chart, so you can see where your tree thins out at a glance.
• Quick-add relatives. Add a parent, spouse, sibling or child straight from a person on the tree without leaving the page.
• Tree export. Save your tree as a full-detail image (PNG or SVG) or send it straight to your printer.
• Family timeline. A visual timeline on each profile shows a person's life events in order, alongside the records that document them.
• Life events. Profiles and couples now support typed events such as marriage, immigration, military service and burial, so more of what you find has a proper place to live.
• On This Day. A daily feed of anniversaries drawn from your own tree, paired with historical context from the same date. You can share any highlight as a card, and opt in to a daily or weekly digest email from Settings.
• Tree health score. A single score for how complete and well-sourced your tree is, with achievements and suggested quick wins to improve it.
• Expected records. KleioBase now suggests which records should exist for a person based on what you already have, so you know what to look for next.
• Guided tour steps for the family tree and insights, for anyone taking the product tour.

Changed

• One name per person, everywhere. A person now displays under the same name on every screen, so someone does not appear as one name on their profile and another in search or on a record.
• GEDCOM import is now available on every plan, including Explorer.
• Better matching. Dates and places recorded inside a record's events are now used when comparing people. Several signals that had stopped contributing are working again, so expect more and better match suggestions.
• Pricing and help pages now match what the product actually does.

Fixed

• Searching your records from the Research Companion returned nothing for place and keyword searches. It now works.
• The upload workspace could discard unsaved edits to a record when you opened another one. Your edits now survive, and closing still asks before losing anything.
• Opening a record from global search did not always open it as a tab in the workspace.
• The maiden name field disappeared when an extraction did not find one, instead of staying available to fill in.
• Extraction sometimes recorded a wife's married surname as her maiden name, and a mother's married surname as her maiden name. Both are corrected.
• Merging two people failed when both were linked to the same record.
• The merge screen drew relatives in the wrong column when reconciling.
• Deleted people could still appear in matching results and conflicts.
• The dashboard's "Review matches" link now opens the list sorted by most matches, as intended.
• Exports, the timeline and the places map silently left out rows once a list grew past a certain size. All three are now complete.
• Credits are no longer lost when a record was successfully transcribed but a later step failed.
• Layout, spacing and readability fixes across phone-sized screens, plus accessibility improvements throughout.
• Temporary AI provider outages are now handled gracefully instead of surfacing as a failed record.
• The upload workspace tab bar can be panned by holding and dragging when you have many tabs open.

Added

• AI assistants and search engines can now read the entire help center as a single document, so answers about KleioBase pulled from AI tools stay accurate and up to date.

Fixed

• Sign-up and login no longer get stuck if the security check briefly fails (most common in in-app browsers); you now get a clear retry option instead of a frozen button.
• Re-saving a confirmed record no longer copies a person's birth (maiden) surname into their married name, so the two stay separate and correct.
• Failed record processing now reliably refunds pay-as-you-go credits.
• Knowledge base timeline and places are more complete, no longer occasionally leaving out events tied to a record.

Added

• Dashboard stat cards are now clickable and take you straight to the matching view.
• The merge page now shows each profile's ID, making it easier to tell two similar people apart while you review a potential duplicate.

• Upload limits are now described consistently as "credits" across the app, pricing, and help center, so what you see while uploading matches what you see on your plan.

Fixed

• You can now edit the transcription and translation on a record after it has been confirmed.
• Clarified in the help center that duplicate detection is included on every plan, and explained how records and people profiles relate to each other.

Added

• Light mode. Pick a light or dark interface under Account & Preferences, or follow your device setting. Your choice is remembered across devices.
• A default language for transcription and translation. Set it once and every record you process from then on produces its translation, narrative, display name, and structured details in that language. The original-language transcription is never changed.
• A date format preference. Choose whether dates read day, month, or year first, and KleioBase shows dates that way throughout the app.
• A choice of which surname leads a person's name. For married women, the maiden (birth) name is shown by default, the genealogical convention. You can switch to the married name instead. Both names are always saved, and you can search by either.
• Evidence at a glance on the dashboard. Potential-duplicate rows now open a panel showing the shared details behind the match, so you can decide without leaving the page.

• Disconnected-people rows on the dashboard are now clickable and take you straight to that person.
• While editing a person's profile, Save keeps you on the edit screen so you can keep working, and Save & close returns you to the profile when you are done.
