Accessibility Statement
Built to be usable by everyone.
We want every researcher to be able to use KleioBase, regardless of how they browse the web. This statement explains what we do to keep the product accessible, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a barrier you hit.

- WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Our commitment
KleioBase aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Accessibility is part of how we design and build features, not an afterthought, and we treat accessibility regressions with the same seriousness as functional bugs.
Measures we take
- Color contrast. Body and secondary text meet the WCAG AA contrast ratio against our dark background. We removed the low-contrast grays that failed AA.
- A low-contrast preference. If you prefer softer text, an optional Low-contrast text setting is available under Settings › Accessibility. It is off by default so the accessible, higher-contrast styling is what you get out of the box.
- Keyboard operability. Interactive controls are reachable and operable with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
- Semantic structure. We use proper headings, landmarks, labels, and ARIA attributes so assistive technology can navigate pages.
- Text alternatives. Meaningful images carry alternative text; purely decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
- Touch targets and responsive layout. The interface adapts to small screens, and interactive targets are sized for touch.
Conformance status
KleioBase is partially conformantwith WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the standard. We are actively working to close the gaps below.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas of the product may present barriers for some users. We are aware of the following and are working to improve them:
- The places map. The interactive map view is highly visual; the underlying place and event data is also available in list and timeline views, which are more accessible.
- The document image viewer. The zoom-and-pan canvas in the upload workspace is a visual tool; the transcription and extracted data for every record are available as text alongside it.
- Third-party content. Embedded services such as checkout and the support chat widget are provided by third parties and are governed by their own accessibility practices.
